It’s March, which means winter is well on it’s way. Soon it’ll be seeya sunshine and hello dreary, depressing Melbourne weather. Chuck on your best hat and lap it up in the outdoors while you still can. Here are five of Melbourne’s sunniest beer gardens to enjoy a drink.
605 Victoria St, Abbotsford
Settle in with a craft beer at this Melbourne icon. Terminus’ double story beer garden boasts 16 craft beers on-tap and the choice between Asian delicacies or pub classics if you’re hungry. Despite the funky renovation, it’s still got the same laid back, ‘everyone’s invited’ atmosphere it’s always had.
336 Burwood Rd, Hawthorn
If you’re feeling something no nonsense and a tad grungy, head to the beer garden out the back of Nevermind Bar. The drinks are cheap, the vibes are high and you can score a mean American-style feed. With comfy couches and live music, you’ll feel like you’re outside at a mates house party on a sunny day.
274 Johnston St, Abbotsford
Just what the doctor ordered. Laze in the trendy beer garden out the back of Dr Morse and take your pick from the top-notch menu and drinks list. An apple (cider) a day keeps the doctor away, right?
1 Flinders Walk, Melbourne CBD
Picture this: you’re looking out over the Yarra with a glass of crisp white in your hand. The sun is shining and you’re nibbling on cheese and prosciutto from a delectable platter. Life’s good. Now imagine no longer and take yourself to Arbory where this is a reality.
250 High St, Northcote
The beer garden at this Northcote favourite is no frills and all charm. With regular live music and 10/10 pub grub at your finger tips, you won’t want to leave the leafy outdoor setup. P.S if you don’t make it there before Winter, there’s an outdoor fire in the colder months making it the perfect winter beer garden too.
96 Chapel St, Windsor
On account of the fact it’s hidden behind a sandwich shop, Jungle Boy is never overcrowded. This is very ideal when it’s 30 something degrees and sunny. The cocktails here are almost as fun as the jungle-themed décor, including a stuffed tiger. Carry a cold one out to the back garden and bask in the jungle fever.
100 Gipps St, Collingwood
Stomping Ground feels like the lovechild of a merry European beer hall and a trendy Melbourne bar. The spacious outdoor beer garden has a friendly, communal vibe – the ideal setting for a session in the sun. It’s dog-friendly too, so bring Cujo along.
Garden State Hotel
101 Flinders Ln, Melbourne CBD
Take beer-gardening to the next level at Garden State Hotel. The giant trees, lush greenery and eclectic decor give the feeling of a very luxey backyard. The fresh beer straight from the brewery and award winning food are just little bonuses (baked gnocchi anyone?!).
Welcome to Thornbury
520 High St, Northcote
Calling all foodies: this one’s for you guys. Welcome to Thornbury is half beer garden, half food truck park, housing up to seven food trucks on any given day. Once you’ve chosen from the abundance of cuisines (and 35 on-tap beers!), kick back and relax in the sunny beer garden.
275 Exhibition St, Melbourne CBD
Here we have Trunk, the bar with the biggest outdoor beer garden in the CBD. Thrilled yet? You will be when you hear about its 14 on tap beers, A-grade burger menu and drop dead gorgeous architecture. There’s also a 150 year old heritage listed tree throwing shade over the garden sunburn avoided.
