Trainscendence is the building on Rolling Stock Lane you have probably driven past and wondered about: the one with two old train carriages on the roof. Go up and you will find a rooftop bar on the deck between the carriages, with the city skyline on one side and Collingwood's rooftops on the other. The carriages themselves are fitted out as lounges, so you can take a drink into a 1980s railway car and watch the sun go down over the inner north.

Inside, every floor is its own trip. There are six bars across ten floors, and each room has been built around an idea: a gold velvet ceiling in one, a cloud roof in another, a room grown over with plants, a stage room with a karaoke setup and a bar of its own. Installations cover the stairwells and there is a lift if you would rather skip them. The drinks run from local craft beer and cider to wine, cocktails and premium spirits, and the bar is staffed by people who want you to find the room you did not know you were looking for.

The bar comes alive around what is on: comedy festival shows, Fringe seasons, live music, karaoke nights and the parties happening on the floors around you, so the rooftop fills with a mix of audiences and crews from different nights all in one building.
