“Throughout all of Southeast Asia it is the food that shapes the culture. It is the passion for their food that I experienced on my very first trip to Asia, which became the inspiration to become a chef - to become obsessed with unlocking the ferocious appetite the people have for their food and flavours. From as south as Bali to the North of China, we’ve covered it all. Searching the streets and the markets, yearning to master this challenging style of cooking.”
Owners Rahmie and Shane have bottled up all the vivacity and cheek of Southeast Asia and poured it into a venue that boasts strong punchy flavours and classic cocktails with an Asian twist. Egalitarian eating is the rule of thumb at the Fitzroy venue. Communal tables, everyone sharing and dining together – whatever your dietary needs, they think the food tastes better this way.
Diners can expect a decadent 5-course banquet at a price reminiscent of a Southeast Asian getaway. Select your 5 favorite dishes off their notoriously delicious menu such as the twice-cooked sticky pork belly in tamarind caramel sauce or the Balinese sashimi tuna on a house-made rice wafer with squid ink emulsion? Vegetarian and Vegan banquettes are also available using tofu, veggies and imitation meats instead.
Their cocktail list and staff encapsulate the cheeky, playful nature of the cuisines regions. Sip on their Lemongrass Tom Collins or transport yourself back to the steamy streets of Thailand with their Mekong Mule – Mekong whisky, Vietnamese mint and lime, topped with ginger beer.
