ABOUT Hanoi Rose
Best Vietnamese Restaurants

Hanoi Rose is a Vietnamese restaurant located at the heart of the dining precinct on Sydney Road (between Brunswick Rd and Glenlyon Rd), with ample parking nearby. A capacity of more than 70 seats arranged in two separate areas, with a contemporary and rustic look featuring Vietnamese murals, the restaurant provides a cosy and pleasant dining ambience for couples, families and groups, small and large.

The extensive menu features more than 50 dishes that combine popular Vietnamese street food (pho, spring rolls, rice vermicelli, banh xeo) with sumptuous and filling mains (shaking beef, eggplant hotpots, corn-fed duck in orange sauce). The menu caters for different dietary requirements (vegetarian/vegan, Halal, gluten free and dairy free) with clear labelling. With flavours leaning toward the North Vietnamese cooking style which is less sweet than the southern cousin, their food is a reflection of the heritage of the owner/head chef, who grew up in in the Old Quarter of Hanoi, the culinary centre of Vietnam’s capital city.

Their signature dish, bun cha (pronounced boon cha) is Hanoi’s very own street food invention. This charcoal grilled pork and meatballs dish, served in light fish sauce with rice vermicelli and fresh herbs, made worldwide headlines in 2016 when former US president Barrack Obama and late celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain were spotted slurping it down with a beer in a humble joint in Hanoi.

Above all, the food is lovingly crafted using fresh and high quality ingredient ingredients. Hanoi Rose are particularly proud of the fact that unlike most other Vietnamese restaurants in Melbourne, they add no MSG in their cooking, which helps to produce a clean aftertaste while still retaining full flavour.

The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, and trades on most public holidays. Booking is recommended but walk-in is also welcome. The restaurant is fully licensed with a wide range of beers (including Vietnamese beers), wine and spirits. They also offer BYO (wine only) on week days with corkage applied. Free wifi is available.
