The Banff Cafe
Best Cheap Eats

145 Fitzroy St, St. Kilda, 3182

Famous for its delicious pizza and more-for-less philosophy, the Banff Cafe has been a Fitzroy St gem since back in 1947 when it was part of the American army barracks as a galley.

In its current form since 2008, the cafe now has the cosy feel of a log mountain cabin, with an open fireplace and ski lodge memorabilia hung on the walls. The outdoor seating area spills invitingly out onto the pavement, making for ideal summer dining.

The Banff is cheap, cheerful eating with no compromise on quality. On Mondays and Tuesdays the pizzas are only $6 all day until midnight, and on Wednesdays and Thursdays the same deal applies from midday to 5:30. Classics include the pumpkin, feta & caramalised onion vegetarian option, and the sweet but simple salami, olives and roasted tomato.

All of their pizzas can come with a gluten-free base for an extra $2.50, and there are also a number of vegetarian options and reasonably prices pasta dishes. They also serve hearty breakfasts, such as their BBB (Banff Breakfast Burrito) - basically a smashed av in a divine doughy casing - and cheeky specials such as coffee served in a latte cone!
