Eau De Vie is one of Sydney’s best hidden gems. Translating to “water of life”, Eau De Vie was named The World’s Best New Cocktail Bar in 2011, and is ranked among the top 50 bars in the world.
If you’re after somewhere a little more quiet and sophisticated to host a party then Eau De Vie is the place to go. Tucked inside the sleek Kirketon Hotel in Darlinghurst, this warm cocktail bar by appearance and by nature, plays host to some of the most innovative concoctions the city has to offer.
The cosy function room, aptly named “The Whiskey Room” is concealed in the back of the bar, and is a great spot for groups of 20-30 people. The space is perfect for an intimate birthday party, corporate affair or any occasion that may need some pre or post celebrating.
The atmosphere of the private Whiskey Room is stylish yet humble with the décor immediately taking you back in time to the prohibition area – we kept waiting for Gatsby to walk in through the doors. Sprawled on the walls you’ll find an impressive array of liquors in glass cabinets that encase the room and there is plenty of seating and standing space for you and your guests to mingle with ease.
The seasonal food and drinks menu is well thought out. Drinks are structured around individual bartenders and their craftsmanship, so you can rest assured knowing you are in more than capable hands. Eau De Vie believe that making the perfect drink is an art form and trust us when we say that they will never fail to deliver on both taste, theatrics and presentation.
The Whiskey Room offers a choice of menus with canapés designed to compliment the atmosphere of the venue. Have a taste of oysters shucked to order with mignonette, a spread of meats and cheeses, and warm baguettes with extra virgin olive oil and aged balsamic, plus many other options to tantalize the taste buds.
The cocktail list is extensive with 22 pages for cocktails and over 40 pages for Whiskeys! A drink to try is ‘The Aviator’ if you’re after something light – house made rhubarb and juniper puree shaken up with Beefeater gin and fresh lemon juice, with a cute, little paper plane on a ‘cloud’ of fairy floss for the presentation.
If you feel like something with a little more body, try ‘Bandit Belle’, with offers a welcomed spin on the average Espresso Martini and combines roasted coffee and agave with pistachio and avocado oil infused highland Tequila.
If you like your celebrations like your martinis, with a twist, Eau De Vie offers a range of tasting sessions and cocktail classes to really shake things up. Gather a small group together and spend the evening learning from the masters of drinks and experimentation.
Eau De Vie is all about creating memorable experiences and they definitely live up to their accolades. The Whiskey Room is the perfect place in Sydney for an intimate celebration so make sure you contact them about hiring the unique and utterly impressive space for your next function or special celebration!
