You’ve probably seen the trailer for T2 Trainspotting – a sequel to the original Trainspotting film (1996) – that is soon to be released in cinemas worldwide. Both the novel and the film shocked the world when it was first released. The film (and the comedy show for that matter) are not for the faint-hearted. It’s a twisted take on dark humour that revolves around drug abuse, the raging party scene of the 80’s, unemployment and the up’s and down’s of one’s youth. It’s almost a coming-of-age tale, but one that is overshadowed with heartbreak, desolation, poverty and substance abuse issues in comparison to other tales depicting the transition of youth into adulthood.
What originally started as a novel has now been translated into dark comedic gold, with Trainspotting Live taking centre stage in front of a live audience. If you thought you were one to become emotionally invested in movies or novels, then you haven’t sat through a live, immersive performance with as brilliant actors as the ones from Trainspotting Live. The thrills are tenfold, the air thick with anxiousness and the theatre filled with raw and gritty emotions from everyone around you.
The live show has had raving reviews in London and is set to be the next big thing in Australia. Bear in mind, the live show requires audience participation and involves some pretty full-on nudity, swearing, shooting up and just some overall outrageous antics (maybe don’t take your kids to this one…). As an audience member, you will most likely be talking about this show for the next few days or even weeks – it’s not one you’ll easily forget. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll audibly gasp and maybe even shield your eyes – but this is a once in a lifetime performance you do not want to miss.
