Honkas Bar + Eats is nestled in the back streets of Potts Point. A pan-Asian restaurant and bar, Honkas takes flavours from the streets of Vietnam, Korea and Japan.
A bold front door of green copper and a mural depicting a Hong Kong street vendor mark the entry. Once inside, a simple toning of black and white with an occasional splash of pink are the only colours within the internals of the venue. Offering a sophisticated yet casual environment, Honkas’ clientele range from special occasion dining through to more casual bar hoppers.
The venue, inspired by trips to Asia have tabletops of newspapers in Korean, Chinese and Vietnamese, with an oversized Asian loom encapsulating the dining area. The restaurant and bar area open onto a centralised courtyard offering a relaxed and open space. The courtyard garden is complete with daybeds, ideal for relaxing and watching the world go by.
Honkas’ menu enables its guests varied dining options, from house made dumplings whilst sipping on a happy hour drink through to a romantic or corporate dining experience on special occasions. Honkas cures its own Atlantic salmon w/ sake offering a clean and distinctively clean Asian flavour. But most can’t go past the house favourite, crisp fried karaage chicken which is served with a wasabi sauce on the side. The Barramundi bao is a new favourite, offering contrasting texture between the soft bun and crispy pan fried fish.
Filipino born Rupert Jules Palaroan earnt his stripes in Wellington before moving to Sydney early in 2019. Taking inspiration from his home country, Palaroan has a passion for all things Asian.
Flavours don’t only come from the food, Honkas’ cocktails are Asian inspired to match the food offering, a favourite is the PoPo Trio, muddled Cucumber, Gin and Sake making for a tasty trio. All beers are Asian including yum cha favourite Tsingtao. Wines, whilst not Asian, come from Italy, France, Argentina and Australia, specifically sourced to match the food flavours.
Don’t forget happy hour daily from 5-7pm offering $6 beers and wine + $10 Aperol Spritz. Weekend afternoons offer bottomless brunch for $80 incl 2 hours unlimited beer + wine + our awesome feed me lunch menu. Anyone for rose? Our magnums of Villa Aix for $70 between 3-6pm are a great way to spend an afternoon.
