Fortitude Valley’s New Prince Consort Rules All on its Own

by Indah Da Silva

A consort generally refers to the companion of a reigning monarch – but in this case, The Prince Consort rules all on its own. This stunning historical pub in the heart of Fortitude Valley is a heritage listed dream venue that’s been recently renovated and is ready for you to explore. Tilley & Wills Hotels, the Sydney-Based group behind the Oxford Art Factory and Verandah Bar have breathed new life into the 130 year old pub with this truly ambitious new project.

This massive space hosts 8 unique venues in one, each with a different vibe and their own experiences to explore. It’s like a giant game of pass the parcel up in here, so let’s start peeling back the layers and exploring the goods.

Enter through the ground floor and into an unassuming, typical English gastro pub that’s a little brighter and whiter than what you’d usually expect, but with the typical pub atmosphere and hospitality we all know and love.

Head outside into The Garden Bar and find the lush, open air beer garden, the perfect spot to soak up Brisbane’s weather with a beer or two. The space is also available to hire exclusively for larger events, or it can be sectioned off for those smaller, more intimate affairs where you need a bit of space, but don’t want to be too far from the action.

Look up, and you’ll see, perched just above you,  The Deck, which overlooks the garden bar and is also available for exclusive function hire. The space, which caters for all types of weather, covered with roof but open on all sides with lush greenery in every corner, is available for exclusive hire for you and your guests.

To begin the decent (or in this case, ascent) into wonderland, head upstairs to La La Land, a mash of cabaret, disco and cocktails and luxurious interiors that turns into a banging nightclub when the sun goes down.

Down the hall are The Bowie Rooms, inspired by glamorous, edgy Rock n Roll vibes, complete with velvet booths for private hire and a portrait of the man himself watching over you with zero judgement.

Heading back into the thumping heart of the hotel is where you will find 400 Rabbits Cantina, which will transport you to sandier times of Los Cabos, and offers a large range of tequilas and mezcals at the bar, the menu boasting seasonal flavoured tacos to keep the party going all night long. The Naughty Corner is there for all those self-proclaimed boys and girls on Santa’s bad list to sit and enjoy the largest velvet booth in the venue.

Heading downstairs to the cellar is where you will find Greaser, a space reminiscent of that one friend’s basement where you’d have your parties and hang outs (we all know the one), with brick walls, grungy décor and a love for bluesy-rock n roll, this place will transport you to a different era.

On the top floor is The Yorke Suites – which has been promised as a space for “music makers and creative alike”, but for now remains closed to the public. Keep an eye on this space for updates.

There are tonnes of things happening at The Prince Consort every night of the week, such as trivia, sport coverages, live music, dance parties, sick food and drink specials, and everything in between. With a sprawling menu ranging from traditional pub meals, to extravagant tacos, to shared tapas to pizzas, this place literally has it all. For the beer lovers out there, there is a whopping 89 beers on tap throughout the venue, and, yeah. Did somebody say pub (singular) crawl?

You’ll have to check their socials to keep up to date, maybe buy yourself a calendar so you don’t miss a second of the good times.

If it’s a function you’re after, each unique space is available for hire whether for birthday’s, engagements, weddings or just a night out on the town.

Whew, that’s a lot packed into one venue! I might have to catch the first flight up to Brisbane to experience it myself. Save me a seat at The Naughty Corner, I’ll see you there!
