Thousand Pound Wine Bar & Store, located on Main St Rutherglen is a relaxed venue, with monochrome interior and bar seating sets a new scene for the historic town.
Denis Lucey owner says ‘after speaking to the locals; it seemed that there was an opportunity to open a wine bar on the main street that was relaxed and inviting enough to come in alone and have a glass of wine at the bar or meet up with some friends.'
Nick Brown, a winemaker, and owner of Thousand Pound, created the extensive wine list with his family and friends in mind. Wines were sourced predominantly from ‘family owned’ wineries and winemakers that Nick admired, both at home and abroad. “We grew up in a family that doesn’t judge a person on what wine they drink. We wanted our thirsty local crowd to be able to discover wines that we love to drink.
Thousand Pound has a small offering of local and imported, cider, beers and spirits, which is housed in an original Victorian storefront on Rutherglen’s historic Main Street. The venue has been renovated keeping it simple yet sophisticated and en par with its fellow wine bars I the city. You’ll find bar seating and high tables are the main room, whilst an open hallway lined with wine barrels makes for a more intimate scene.
Chef Simon Arkless from the hatted Terrace Restaurant at All Saints Estate prepares humble, fresh, restaurant quality food, and there is also an extensive bar menu to share with friends.
Make Thousand Pound your local if you’re FROM the area, or if you find yourself IN the area, be sure to pop in for a glass!
