Cafe Latte in Hawksburn Village, Toorak was founded by esteemed chef, Luca Lorusso 25 years ago, with the restaurant having since become a staple for locals and regulars alike, who delight in its modern Pugliese cuisine.
The food of Puglia, often referred to as 'cucina povera' or "food of the poor", was certainly born out of necessity and practicality, but it has a richness and complexity that far exceeds the number of ingredients or the simple cooking methods used.
The menu is unpretentious, as is the décor, with its white washed walls with artwork sprawled throughout, suspending you into the heart of a real restaurant in the heart of Puglia, only modernized by the hustle and bustle of its Malvern Road surroundings.
Every dish showcases Luca's passion for his hometown and the menu changes regularly. The pasta is handmade daily, the main dishes are hearty and full of love - just like nonna would have made them - and the staff add to the vibrancy of the restaurant, making you feel very at home. Cafe Latte is ideal in winter for a hearty ragu and cosy atmosphere, and perfect on a Summer’s day, bringing seafood and fresh produce to the forefront, both season’s welcoming a glass of wine in hand.
