At Arts Centre Melbourne under the Spire is the Theatres building, housing the State Theatre, Playhouse, Fairfax Studio, Gallery 1, St Kilda Road Foyer Gallery, The Barre, Café Vic, car park and box office. Arts Centre Melbourne is host and partner to the national and state music, opera, theatre and dance companies, together with local companies, festivals and a multitude of commercial partners.

State Theatre


From dance and Broadway musicals to grand opera productions, the State Theatre offers the complete theatrical experience. It seats 2,079 and has one of the largest stages in the world. Theatrical highlights include performances by Opera Australia and The Australian Ballet.

The Playhouse


Designed specifically for drama, the Playhouse can also accommodate an orchestra for dance, musical comedy and chamber opera. It seats up to 884 people and is renowned for its foyer collection of aboriginal artworks.

Fairfax Studio


An intimate 376-seat drama space, the Fairfax Studio features the work of the Melbourne Theatre Company as well as other theatre companies.

The Barre


A great choice for a pre-show sparkling with a share plate, a meal with a fine wine or a mellow late-night drink.
