On the banks of the Brisbane River stands Brisbane Powerhouse, a once-derelict power station that has been transformed into one of Australia’s busiest contemporary art centres. Inside the brick husk are graffiti remnants, pieces of industrial machinery, five event spaces and two restaurants.
With over 700,000 visitors a year see 1250+ performances at Brisbane Powerhouse. We have a year-round program featuring events across music, comedy, writers + ideas, dance, film, visual arts, digital arts, theatre and music theatre.
We have two main stage theatres seating up to 740 and 200 people respectively, and three additional venues that seat 80–180. Brisbane Powerhouse features gallery spaces, two restaurants and bars, corporate facilities and the best river view in Brisbane.
We produce some of Queensland and Australia’s largest events, including Brisbane Comedy Festival, Australian Performing Arts Market, World Theatre Festival, Queensland Cabaret Festival, MELT Queer Cultural Festival, Wonderland and Brisbane Queer Film Festival.
We help create events and experiences that couldn’t exist anywhere else, including outstanding dining experiences, the adrenalin rush of a festival’s atmosphere or the joy of witnessing a great performance. Our building is the hero of our story, and its uniqueness is represented in everything our audience encounters.
